ALA-100 is the Eight Point Solutions Alcohol Awareness Course for Security Professionals, a 4-hour online course for security officers on bar, restaurant, nightlife, venue, event, stadium, hotel, and casino posts, door staff, event staff, supervisors, and anyone whose job is to be looking at guests on licensed premises. Delivered self-paced on the EPS Portal from Lanham, Maryland, the course trains the officer to treat the visibly intoxicated guest as a security matter the moment he is visible: know the law that reaches the door in Maryland and the District of Columbia, know how alcohol works in the body and why the guest who looks fine at the bar is on the floor an hour later, read intoxication by counting cues in four categories, check identification in four steps and catch the borrowed, altered, and counterfeit card, refuse at the door with a rule, a reason, and an option, support the cutoff, run the duty of care at the exit including the guest who is going to drive, recognize alcohol poisoning and call on the first sign, and write the log entry that defends the license. Content is built to cover the subject matter of the alcohol awareness programs approved by the Maryland Comptroller and the District of Columbia Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration; EPS has not applied for approval under either program and this credential is not a Maryland or District certification. Tuition is $25.00. The official ALA-100 Course Syllabus, Version 1.0 is included in Module 1. Five modules cover alcohol and the officer, how alcohol works, reading intoxication, checking identification, and the intervention and the record. Completion requires all five modules, every module quiz passed at 80 percent or higher, the 50-item final examination passed at 90 percent or higher, and the course sign-off. The EPS Alcohol Awareness Certification is serial-numbered, recorded in the EPS registry, verifiable through the EPS Portal, and valid for two years. It is not a state security license, it does not replace employer post orders, and it does not authorize any use of force or the taking of anyone's property. Module 1: Alcohol and the Officer

Covers the EPS Portal from login through the final examination, the course map, and the grading rules that govern certification. Covers the law that reaches the door in Maryland and the District, sales to minors and to visibly intoxicated persons, licensee liability on both sides of the line, what visibly means, where the officer stands, and who does what on licensed premises. Establishes the rule that runs the whole course: the visibly intoxicated guest is a security matter the moment he is visible, not the moment he is a problem. States plainly that this is not a Maryland or District approved certificate.

Module 2: How Alcohol Works

Covers the standard drink and why nothing served is standard unless someone made it so, absorption and the thirty to ninety minute peak, blood alcohol concentration and what it does at each level, the legal limit, elimination at one drink an hour and the myths that claim otherwise, the factors that change the number, tolerance that hides the cues, the signs of alcohol poisoning, and the guest who was given a drink that was not his.

Module 3: Reading Intoxication

1 lesson · 0.5 hours, self-paced. Closes with a quiz that passes at 80 percent. Covers the four categories of cues, judgment, coordination, speech, and perception, in the order they appear, the EPS count that sets the action, one is a watch, two is a contact, three is a stop, where the cues hide, the tests the officer never gives, and what the officer says to the server, the manager, the guest, and the log.

Module 4: Checking Identification

Covers who gets checked, the documents Maryland and the District accept and the ones nobody accepts, the four steps, feel, look, ask, and give back or refuse, the arithmetic written down before the doors open, the borrowed, altered, and counterfeit card and where each one fails, what the scanner does and does not do, the refusal, retention as the post orders' decision and never the officer's, wristbands, the minor inside, and the log.

Module 5: The Intervention and the Record

Covers the refusal at the door without the word drunk, supporting the cutoff on the floor, the ejection under CSV-100, the duty of care at the exit including the guest who is going to drive, the guest who cannot walk, and the guest who is alone, the medical emergency on the first sign, and the same-day log entry with the cues, the count, the times, the options, and how the guest left. States the limit plainly: no keys taken, no property taken, no hand on anyone.
